In school, we learned
that colors lie on a
spectrum,
each falling
somewhere,
each with
different
wavelengths and qualities,
but
always
a
color.

We were taught that even
time is a
human made
measure created to make some
sense of the
world around us.

We are taught this as
proven fact backed by
scientific and historical
evidence,
yet we do not
acknowledge that the
labels
stitched into our minds
before we could explain the
pain
of the needle or
remember
who bought the thread
are similarly
human made,
created
to try to make sense of the
world around us,
but I cannot ignore this
binary
that leaves so many
falling through those
cracks
that keep getting bigger.

I cannot help but become
jealous
of those colors lying
freely wherever they feel most
comfortable.

I cannot help but imagine what would
happen if we did the
same.

Yeah,
there would be some
pinks
and
blues,
but there would also be
every
single
shade
in between.

Then,
maybe,
I would not feel this need to
hide
the magnificent
purple
that lies
just
beneath
my
skin.
